How fees work
Plain answers on paying for care, before you book.
Insurance we work with
We bill a few plans for acupuncture visits. Ask Michael whether yours is one of them. A plan that covers acupuncture may not cover herbs, and plans differ on what they pay.
If you pay yourself
If you pay yourself, we tell you the fee for each part of your visit before it happens, and you pay at the visit. Herbs are priced by the formula and we tell you before it is filled.
Receipts for reimbursement
After each visit we give you an itemized receipt. If your plan reimburses out-of-network care you can send it in, and your plan decides what it pays.
An estimate in advance
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate, and we give it to you in writing before your first visit. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it.
Checking your benefits
Michael checks what your plan says about acupuncture before your first visit and calls you with it. You can also ask your plan directly.
What the first visit includes
A first visit takes about 75 minutes and includes a conversation, a treatment and a plan. Follow-up visits are about 50 minutes.
Please call us as early as you can if you need to change a visit. Ask Michael about our cancellation policy.
What sets the fee
Four things the fee depends on
We tell you the fee for your visit and your formula before they begin.
The kind of visit
A first visit, a follow-up and a visit for herbs only are not the same length.
How long it takes
Time with your acupuncturist is part of the visit.
What goes in your formula
Herbs are priced by what is in the bag, and we tell you before it is filled.
The form it comes in
Raw herbs, granules, pills and teas are priced differently.
